Pro-Wike Lawmakers still PDP members, Rivers Court Declares
ITODE AKARI – Port Harcourt
PORT HARCOURT – A Rivers state High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has struck out a suit filed by Hycent Wosa-Amadi and three others seeking a declaration that the seats of Martin Amaewhule and 26 others at the Rivers State House of Assembly are vacant following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December last 2023.
The presiding judge, Justice Okogbule Gbasam in his Judgment ruled that the pro-Wike lawmakers are still members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), adding that the claimants failed to prove to the court that the embattled lawmakers truly defected to the APC.
The court ruled that Newspaper publications, radio announcements and other media publications were not enough to convince the court of the alleged defection.
According to the court, a defection can only be established through the party membership register, a membership card as well as such members fulfilling all requirements of their membership in the party.
