Prof. Amos Utuama Made Towering Contributions to Jurisprudence; He Was an Astute Public Servant of Outstanding Pedigree
— Amb. Dr. Godknows Igali, PANDEF National Chairman

By Wilson Macaulay

Ambassador Dr. Godknows Igali, the newly elected National Chairman of PANDEF, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama, describing it as a profoundly sorrowful and solemn moment for the Niger Delta and the nation as a whole.

In a statement to Daily Independent Newspaper via WhatsApp, Ambassador Igali emphasized that the life and legacy of Prof. Amos Utuama have left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s judicial and public service landscape.
His tribute reads in part:

“In reflecting on the life of Prof. Amos Utuama, we recognize a man whose commitment to justice, governance, and the Niger Delta was unwavering. As PANDEF National Chairman, I, Ambassador Dr. Godknows Igali, on behalf of PANDEF and the entire Niger Delta region, mourn the loss of this exceptional leader.”

“Prof. Utuama was a man of extraordinary intellectual prowess whose contributions to jurisprudence were both foundational and transformative. His legal scholarship advanced the frontiers of law in Nigeria, and he was deeply respected for his erudite approach to complex legal challenges. Whether in the courtroom, lecture halls, or policy debates, Prof. Utuama’s insights and interpretations served as a beacon for practitioners, students, and colleagues alike.”

“His profound respect for the rule of law and his unwavering dedication to its principles underscored his commitment to upholding the integrity of Nigeria’s judicial system.”

Beyond his academic and professional excellence, Prof. Utuama was a seasoned public servant, a role he performed with integrity and honor. As former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of Delta State, and later Deputy Governor, his contributions to governance were marked by a steadfast commitment to public welfare, equity, and societal advancement. His legacy is that of an astute public servant, whose achievements and values continue to serve as an enduring example for future generations.

Most poignantly, Prof. Utuama was a an unstoppable advocate for the Niger Delta, demonstrating a deep understanding of its challenges and potential. His advocacy reflected not only his intellect but also his compassion and passion for his people. He recognized the unique opportunities and obstacles facing the Niger Delta and worked tirelessly to foster justice, equity, and prosperity in the region. Prof. Utuama’s legacy will stand as a testament to his love for the Niger Delta and his belief in its immense potential.

As I reflect on the remarkable life he lived as a true son of the Niger Delta, I find solace in the monumental legacy he left behind. May his journey beyond be peaceful, and may his life’s work continue to inspire and uplift the Niger Delta and Nigeria at large. Rest in peace, Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama; your contributions will not be forgotten,” Igali concluded.
