REJOINDER: Political Propaganda Cannot Rewrite the History of Kogi West – Teejay Media Team

It has become imperative to clarify the ongoing discourse surrounding the rotational arrangement in Kogi West Senatorial District. The recent attacks on Hon. Teejay Yusuf, fueled by political propaganda, warrant a measured response to set the record straight.

Historically, the political landscape in Kogi West has seen various candidates, including Hon. TJ Faniyi, contest against Smart Adeyemi. To now demand a rotational arrangement is inconsistent and untenable. If these individuals had not previously contested against candidates from other constituencies, their current claims would hold little weight. Today, every qualified indigene from any Federal Constituency or Local Government in Kogi West has the right to contest for the Senate seat, which remains open to all.

Regarding Hon. Teejay’s legacy, it is crucial to acknowledge that his repeated electoral victories three consecutive terms as a member of the House of Representatives speak volumes about his performance and the trust placed in him by the electorate. Hon. Teejay possesses the experience and national connections necessary to attract development to our region. In contrast, Mr. Fatosa, who lacks recognition even within his own ward, appears to be an opportunist, contesting under a party with questionable membership.

The people of Kogi West have moved beyond the realm of social media politics and campaigns of calumny. If Mr. Fatosa believes he is qualified, he should present his credentials and track record to the people rather than resorting to disparaging tactics. Hon. Teejay is a well-known figure across Kogi West, and the electorate is resolute in their support for him.

To clarify further, notable political figures such as Hon. Shola Ojo, Chief Akande, and Yomi Awoniyi have previously contested for the Senate seat. The historical distribution of Senate representation among various constituencies Yagba with 4 years, Kabba-Bunu with 3 months, Lokoja with 8 years, Ijumu with 16 years, and Yagba West with 4 years raises questions about the basis for claims favoring Yagba for Senate representation.

Mr. Fatosa and his sponsors should engage in substantive political discourse rather than perpetuating misleading narratives. The circulation of falsehoods and misinterpretations by political jobbers is not only dishonest but also detrimental to the democratic values that Kogi West has worked hard to uphold.

It is essential to reject the myopic insinuations and reckless fabrications that arise from political desperation. Hon. Teejay Yusuf’s pursuit of the senatorial seat is both lawful and politically conventional. The attempts by a few to twist this matter into an attack on any political leader are not only disingenuous but also pose a threat to the democratic culture we cherish.

Politics should focus on genuine issues governance, development, economic growth, security, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and citizen welfare rather than descending into falsehoods and character assassination. We urge the people of Kogi West and the public to disregard the misleading interpretations propagated by desperate political actors.

Kogi West belongs to all citizens, regardless of political affiliation or ethnic background. As we strive for unity, stability, and sustainable development, all political actors must embrace responsible leadership, mutual respect, and issue-based campaigns that strengthen our collective future. History has shown that while propaganda may capture attention temporarily, the truth will ultimately prevail. An informed populace can discern between genuine advocacy and calculated mischief. The facts remain steadfast, and no amount of distortion can alter them.

In conclude let us focus on constructive dialogue and work together towards a brighter future for Kogi West.
