Rivers APC Slams Impeachment Plot Against Gov. Fubara, Warns Lawmakers to Back Off
By Nelson Ogbu
The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected moves by some members of the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara, warning that the action could destabilise both the party and the state.
In a statement on Thursday signed by its spokesperson, Darlington Nwauju, the APC said while it respects the constitutional independence of the legislature, impeachment was an extreme and unjustified option, especially against an APC governor.
The party cautioned against importing unresolved political disputes from the opposition into its fold, noting that the alleged impeachment threat is linked to budgetary issues already covered by a ₦1.485 trillion one-year budget approved by the National Assembly in 2025 and expected to run until August 2026.
Urging lawmakers, particularly APC members, to resist external pressures, the party called for the immediate discontinuation of the impeachment process to avoid dragging the party’s image into disrepute and undermining governance in Rivers State.
