SDP Felicitates Oba Olu Falae at 88
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has felicitated its pioneer National Chairman and elder statesman, His Royal Highness, Oba Samuel Oluyemi Falae, CFR, the Olu-Abo of Abo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on the occasion of his 88th birthday.
In a congratulatory message signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, on September 21, 2026, the National Chairman, Professor Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, on behalf of the National Working Committee (NWC) and the entire SDP family across Nigeria, described Oba Falae as a highly respected patriot, accomplished technocrat and distinguished statesman.
The party expressed pride in identifying with the monarch, who served as its National Leader before retiring from active politics in February 2019 at the age of 80.
Oba Falae, a former Permanent Secretary in the Cabinet Office, also served as a banker and rose to the position of Managing Director of a merchant bank. He later became Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and contested the 1999 presidential election as the candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

According to the SDP, the elder statesman has maintained an enviable record of public and private service, with his contributions to national development earning him widespread respect.
The party also recalled his role as a delegate and leader of Afenifere at the 2014 National Conference, describing his lifelong contributions to Nigeria as a source of inspiration to younger generations.
The SDP congratulated Oba Falae on attaining the age of 88 and prayed for his continued good health, peace and fulfilment.
The party further expressed the hope that his records of service and lifetime achievements would continue to inspire Nigerians to make meaningful contributions to national development and the building of a better society.
The message concluded with the traditional Yoruba birthday prayer: “Sir, igba odun, odun kan ni fun yin, lase Edumare.”
