SDP: Nigeria’s Sovereignty is Non-Negotiable, Government Must Deliver on Security
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expressed deep concern over the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria, emphasizing that the government’s primary duty is to protect the lives and property of its citizens.
In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, the party noted that successive governments have failed to fulfill this fundamental obligation, resulting in the loss of countless lives to banditry and insurgency.
The SDP stressed that the life of every Nigerian is more important than their religious persuasion and urged the government to focus on securing the lives of all citizens rather than explaining away the creed of the victims.
The party also warned against external interference, affirming that Nigeria’s sovereignty is non-negotiable.
SDP’s Position
– Sovereignty: The party stands in defense of Nigeria’s sovereignty and opposes any form of external aggression or intervention.
– Security: The government must prioritize national security and the betterment of citizens’ lives over political considerations.
– International Support: The SDP suggests that concrete military support and intelligence collaboration from countries like the United States would be more helpful than criticism.
The SDP calls on President Tinubu to scale up efforts to deliver on his responsibility as Commander-in-Chief and prioritize the security and welfare of Nigerians.
The party also emphasized the need to address poverty and promote people-centered policies to defeat insecurity.
