SENATOR KARIMI HAILS OLUFEMI HARUNA ON AIG PROMOTION

Senator representing Kogi West Sunday Karimi has congratulated Mr Olufemi Haruna on his promotion from the rank of Commissioner of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspector General (AIG), in the Nigeria Police Force (NFF) describing his elevation as “eminently deserved”, earned through “a most rigorous and transparent process, overseen by the Police Service Commission, (PSC).”

Until his promotion, Haruna was Commissioner of Police, Oyo State. He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB).

In the congratutory message he personally signed and addressed to AIG Olufemi Haruna, Psc(+), Special Protection Unit, (SPU), Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, dated March 24th, 2026, Karimi who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Services, stated: “By this promotion, you have attained the highest possible professional rank in Nigeria’s foremost policing and security service. I have followed your career very studiously over the years, especially beginning from your time in the *Police Mobile Force Squadron 24,* otherwise known as the Presidential Escort, attached to the Presidential Villa, since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1999, and noted your sterling sense of discipline and dedication to duty. I always knew that in a merit-based system, the sky will be your step-board”.

The lawmaker also noted that he is not in the least surprised at the robust professional development which culminated in Haruna’s exemplary performance in the Police Staff College Senior Officers’ Course, where he earned a distinction which has culminated in his decoration with the insignia of *psc(+).*

He added: “That you served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Force Intelligence Bureau, (FIB), and substantive Commissioner of Police, Oyo State before your new rank, attest to the broad-based experience you have aggregated over the years. Your present brief as AIG SPU is a most fitting consummation of the professional profile you have diligently built. I am immensely proud of you as my constituent from Ife-Olukotun, Yagba East council area, one of the local government areas the good people of Kogi West have graciously mandated me to represent in the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I pray for your continuing success and wish you further progress in your lifelong calling.
Hearty congratulations once again. Wishing you God’s guidance and protection always”.
