Senator Karimi’s Bursary Fund: Addressing Misinformation and Ensuring Transparency in Disbursement

Our attention has been drawn to misleading reports, videos, and publications circulating in the media regarding the disbursement of Senator Sunday Karimi’s 100 million naira bursary fund for 1,000 beneficiaries in tertiary institutions across Kogi West Senatorial District. It is important to clarify the process and dispel any confusion about the fund’s administration, and particularly disbursement.

First, the disbursement of funds is not being managed directly by the Committee put together for collation of beneficiaries or any other committee members. Instead, a bank, which was specifically selected for this purpose, is responsible for handling the distribution of funds. This bank operates based on a carefully curated list of eligible students, ensuring a fair and efficient process. Only the designated individuals, along with the bank, have direct access to the list of beneficiaries to maintain integrity and prevent any unauthorized alterations.

Currently, disbursements are underway for beneficiaries from several Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Kogi West, including Lokoja, Yagba West, Mopa-Muro, Ijumu, and Kabba-Bunu. These LGAs have already submitted complete beneficiary lists, allowing funds to reach eligible students in those areas promptly. Disbursement to beneficiaries from these local government areas are almost concluded; as only those with account verification challenges are yet to be credited.

However, it is also essential to note that the beneficiary lists from Kogi-Koton-Karfe (KKF) and Yagba East are still being compiled and have yet to be submitted by the committee responsible for list collation. Once the full list from each LGA has been finalized and verified, it will be promptly shared with the bank to facilitate disbursement to the remaining eligible students; after which a comprehensive list of the entire 1000 beneficiaries will be made available for public consumption.

In conclusion, while assuring the beneficiaries of them getting their money, we urge the public to disregard any false claims about the disbursement process. Senator Karimi remains committed to supporting students across Kogi West, and we are taking deliberate steps to ensure the funds are distributed fairly and transparently. We are committed to providing the full beneficiary list as soon as it is completed by the committee and submitted for final processing.
