Shaikh Hassan Calls for Religious Tolerance, Peaceful Coexistence in Nigeria

Ahiaba Douglas,Abuja

The Founder and Leader of the Ojo-Araman Kunfayekun Islamic Prayer Center, Lokoja, Kogi State, His Eminence Shaikh Hassan Mikailu Abejukolo, has called for religious tolerance among adherents of various faiths in Nigeria.

The cleric made the call as part of his message marking his birthday anniversary on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the prayer ground in Anagada, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Shaikh Hassan explained that the existence of people belonging to different religious faiths, including Muslims, Christians, and traditional worshippers, remains a mystery that can only be fully explained by God. He therefore urged adherents of all faiths to tolerate and respect one another in the interest of national unity.

While expressing his love for all human beings, irrespective of their religious affiliations, Shaikh Hassan called on Nigerians, particularly Muslims, to emulate the same spirit of love, tolerance, and mutual respect to promote peaceful and harmonious coexistence in the country.

In an exclusive interview with the press, the prayer leader also appealed to Nigerians to demonstrate love for one another and put an end to hatred and the “pull-him-down” syndrome, which he described as one of the major obstacles to progress in society.

Shaikh Hassan further lamented the increasing level of indiscipline and lack of respect among some youths today. He called on parents to provide proper upbringing and guidance for their children, stressing that responsible parenting is essential for building a better society.
He also urged young people to embrace humility and respect for elders, noting that these values remain important for peaceful and productive communities.

The cleric equally tasked content creators and Nigerian youths to use the internet responsibly by creating and sharing content that adds value to society rather than promoting cyberbullying, fake news, and other forms of harmful online behaviour.

He urged Nigerians to work together, irrespective of their religious and social differences, to build a peaceful, tolerant, and prosperous nation.
