THE CONSPIRACY OF WRATH AND SILENCE
-~ Shae Bebeyi @ Curiously Yours Arena.
> “A nation dies twice: first by the wrath of the wicked, and then by the absolute silence of the righteous. Decay does not fall from the sky; it grows from compromised desks, silent lips, and bartered consciences.”
A nation in structural collapse does not suffer from a sudden, unpredictable act of God. It suffers from the calculated consequences of human choices. When systemic decay reaches its tipping point, it is a refusal of responsibility to look toward the heavens for answers. We must look instead for the human hands that built the ladder of our ruin.
In his classic masterpiece The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck exposed a timeless geopolitical truth:
> “The greatest threat to power is someone who actually listens to the powerless.”
Today, Nigeria is trapped between two opposing yet complementary forces: the Conspiracy of Wrath and the Conspiracy of Silence. We are watching a great republic collapse in slow motion, yet we remain immobilized, functioning as passive spectators to our own destruction.
THE TWIN FORCES OF DESTRUCTION
CONSPIRACY OF WRATH
The Conspiracy of Wrath: The Active Evil
The Conspiracy of Wrath is the active, coordinated warfare waged against the citizens and the sovereignty of the land. It is the ruthless exploitation of the nation’s wealth by a predatory alliance. The primary actors in this syndicate are easily identifiable: unprincipled politicians, compromised public servants, unscrupulous businessmen, bandits, kidnappers, and their high-profile informants across all sectors.
Their operational model relies on extracting the nation’s wealth through deep institutional corruption, nepotism, illegal mining, land grabbing, and a highly profitable ransom economy. They use violence as a tool to control resources.
The Conspiracy of Silence: The Passive Evil
Conversely, the Conspiracy of Silence is the passive enablement of destruction. It is the absolute refusal to speak, act, or enforce justice by those who possess the power and authority to do so. The actors here are the fearful citizens, compromised community leaders, and religious figures who hide behind spiritual platitudes like “It is well” or “Allah ne” (It is God’s will).
This silence is driven by a desire for self-preservation—the fear of becoming the next target, or the desperation to maintain political relevance. By refusing to confront the storm, the silent majority subsidizes the wrath of the minority.
EXPOSING THE DIVINE ALIBI: THE GODS ARE NOT TO BLAME
When a system becomes entirely corrupt, it transforms criminality into a profitable enterprise. To deflect blame from this reality, the Nigerian elite has developed a convenient habit of blaming God for the consequences of human greed.
In his classic dramatic work The Gods Are Not to Blame, playwright Ola Rotimi demonstrated that King Odewale’s tragic downfal—killing his father and marrying his mother—was not merely the result of a divine curse, but the direct consequence of human choices, hidden lies, and systemic silences that paved the way for disaster.
> “Blaming the gods for man’s choices of greed is how men stay innocent while their nations burn.
The False Alibi :
God did not pull the triggers that end innocent lives daily across Nigeria. The heavens do not grant safe passage to bandits and kidnappers, nor do they recruit the local informants who betray their own neighbors. Our structural decay cannot be blamed on colonialism, regional history, or external forces. The fault lies within our own choices.
THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF JUSTICE DELAYED
A core driver of the Conspiracy of Wrath is the deliberate delay in executing justice. No major faith or legal tradition supports the delay of justice for violent crimes. Yet, the Nigerian state specializes in prolonged trials, endless committees, and conferences that produce rhetoric rather than results.
We must look directly into the mirror of power. From Aso Rock to the state government houses, down to local government offices and village squares, we must audit the hands that sign budgets, clear roads, manage resources, and pay ransoms. Until those hands are either cleared by accountability or cut off by the sword of justice, the decay will continue.
THE ROADMAP: THE CONSPIRACY OF TRUTH
Severe systemic illnesses require decisive remedies. A nation cannot defeat active wrath with passive silence or an escapist mindset. We must intentionally replace the conspiracy of silence with an unyielding Conspiracy of Truth
Dismantle the Safe Zones:We must spark an organized, righteous outcry across every platform—from sacred places of worship and social media spaces to town hall meetings and open markets. More silence will only yield more wrath, more calamity, and an expanding ransom economy.
Enforce Swift and Blind Justice: The iconic image of the Lady of Justice features a blindfold not to signify lack of awareness, but to demonstrate absolute impartiality. Justice must see every crime clearly while remaining completely indifferent to the status, tribe, or religious affiliation of the offender.
Expose the Internal Collaborators: The fight against insecurity must begin with an internal cleansing. Communities must identify, isolate, and hand over the local informants and land speculators who facilitate external attacks.
CONCLUSION
Nigeria does not require divine validation to do what is obviously necessary for its survival. Divine laws and natural justice are no respecters of persons or political titles.
The strategy of quiet compromise will eventually consume those who think their wealth or positions insulate them from danger. The rain of wickedness will stop only when the silent majority decides to challenge the weather.
We must end the conspiracy of wrath and silence by standing firmly on the foundation of truth. Let the outcry replace the silence, and let justice rewrite our future before the forces of wrath write our final obituary. Enough is enough.
