The imperative of the second edition of Okun nation’s summit organized by Okun Development Initiative (ODI)

The Okun Development Initiative’s (ODI) second edition summit is a crucial event that underscores the imperative of collective action in addressing the security and developmental challenges facing Okunland. Building on the successes of the first summit the upcoming event is expected to gather stakeholders, government officials, traditional rulers and security experts to deliberate on pressing issues affecting the nation.

The Key areas of Focus will include security, infrastructure development, education, health care delivery, economic empowerment, agriculture and general issues to reposition the area for greater development.

The second edition with the theme: Okun Unity: The Power of One Voice, The Strength of Many Hands under the chairmanship of General Funsho Owonibi (rtd), the Mayegun of Aiyetoro -Gbede while the Executive Governor of Kogi State, HE, Alhaji Usman Ododo will be the Chief Guest of Honor and The paramount ruler of Okunland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman, Okun Area Traditional Council will be the royal father of the Day.

The senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, members of the House of Representatives for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu and Yagba Federal Constituencies and Asiwaju Olatunji Olusoji Foundation will be Special Guest of Honor while the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi will be the Guest Speaker.

The National President of the Okun Development Association (ODA) Ambassador Akenson Rotimi will serve as the father of Day, the immediate past MD/CEO of National Agriculture Insurance Corporation, Mrs Folashade Joseph will be the mother of the day while the Kogi State Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Idris Asiru is the Chairman, Summit Organizing Committee.

The National Coordinator of Okun Development Initiative (ODI), Deacon Olusuyi Otitoju will serve as Host while the Executive Chairman of Yagba West who double as the ALGON Chairman in Kogi State, Hon. Tosin Olokun will be the Chief Host.

The two day event will take place on 30th and 31st May, 2025 at Olonijola Event Center, Kabba, Kogi State, North central Nigeria by 9:am daily.

The second edition summit is expected to Deepen Community Engagement, Fostering a sense of belonging and ownership among Okun people, promoting inclusivity and diversity in ODI’s programs and initiatives.

It is also expected to strengthen the security frameworks of the area by developing effective strategies to mitigate security challenges, ensuring a safe and secure environment for economic growth and development, while exploring opportunities for economic empowerment, job creation and social interventions, leveraging the potential of Okunland’s youth.

The summit will be bringing together stakeholders and experts, the Okun Development Initiative’s second edition summit is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Okunland, addressing pressing challenges and unlocking opportunities for growth and development of the area
