“This Is Not a Time for Celebration” — In Tears, Her Excellency, Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar Cancels Birthday Amid Insecurity Concerns.

By: Musa Olumayowa Yakubu.

Wife of former Vice President of Nigeria, and the Presidential hopeful for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Her Excellency, Mrs Amina Titi Atiku Abubakar, has announced the cancellation of activities planned to mark her birthday, citing the worsening insecurity and economic hardship facing Nigerians across the country.

In an emotional statement released yesterday, to friends, associates, and well-wishers, Mrs. Atiku said the decision was reached after deep reflection and with a heavy heart.

“My dear friends and well-wishers, after much thought and many tears, I and my family have decided not to celebrate my birthday this year,” she stated.

Expressing concern over the growing wave of kidnappings and violent crimes across Nigeria, she questioned the appropriateness of celebrating at a time when many families are living in fear and uncertainty.

“How can I sing or cut a cake when families in Oyo, Kwara, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Ekiti, Borno, Sokoto and other parts of the country cannot find their children and relatives? When kidnapping has become our daily experience, families across Nigeria can’t travel on our roads without the fear of being attacked, and many families go to bed hungry and afraid.”

Mrs. Atiku lamented the impact of the nation’s economic challenges and security crisis on ordinary citizens, noting that millions of Nigerians continue to endure difficult circumstances.

“The poor economy and growing insecurity break my heart. Many Nigerians are enduring painful uncertainty every single day. To hold a celebration at such a time would be insensitive,” she said.

Rather than organize festivities, she disclosed that she would dedicate the day to prayers and reflection for the nation and its people.

“So instead, I will spend my birthday in quiet reflection and prayers—for the safe return of every abducted child, mother and father; for peace in our land; and for strength for suffering families.”

She also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their goodwill and understanding, emphasizing that her decision was motivated by compassion and solidarity with those facing hardship.

“I deeply appreciate your love and your continued belief in one Nigeria. Please understand that this low-key choice comes from a place of love and solidarity.”

Mrs. Atiku concluded by calling on citizens to remain united and committed to the cause of national renewal.

“Thank you for standing with me at this critical time in our nation. Let us stand together for Nigeria and Nigerians.”

Her decision has been widely viewed as a symbolic gesture of empathy and concern for the plight of countless families affected by insecurity and economic hardship. At a time when many Nigerians are calling for urgent action to address the country’s challenges, her message serves as a reminder that leadership and compassion often go hand in hand.
