The Ughievwen Professionals Forum has expressed profound appreciation to Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for approving the tarring of several critical road projects in Ughievwen Kingdom during the recent State Executive Council meeting, describing the decision as a strong demonstration of responsive leadership and commitment to rural development.
The forum specifically commended the governor for approving the construction and tarring of the Jeremi–Okwagbe–Egbo–Ideh Road, Okwagbe Internal Roads, and the Imode internal Road, which stretches from Eyara through Imode to Agbaghare Town, noting that these projects will significantly improve mobility and economic activities across communities in Ughievwen Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, its President, Dr. Israel E. Kwode,
an Economist and development finance expert, stated that the swift approval of the road projects has amplified the Renewed Hope For MORE Agenda and brought excitement to residents who have long yearned for improved road infrastructure within the kingdom.
Dr. Kwode recalled that the forum had recently appealed to the governor to urgently intervene in the completion and rehabilitation of several strategic roads across Ughievwen communities. According to him, the prompt response by the state government clearly shows that Governor Oborevwori is attentive to the concerns and aspirations of the people.
He emphasized that the Jeremi–Okwagbe–Egbo–Ideh Road serves as a major access corridor linking several agrarian communities, while the Imode internal Road from Eyara through Imode to Agbaghare Town plays a vital role in connecting farming settlements and facilitating the transportation of agricultural produce to urban markets.
According to him, the tarring of the Okwagbe internal roads will also greatly enhance movement within the highly Commercial community, reduce travel difficulties experienced by residents, and stimulate commerce and small-scale businesses.
The forum noted that the approval of these projects further reflects the governor’s commitment to ensuring that the dividends of development under the MORE Agenda extend beyond urban centers to rural communities across Delta State as captured in the rural urban renewal and integration policy.
While applauding the governor for what they described as a timely and commendable intervention, the Ughievwen Professionals Forum also respectfully appealed to the state government to consider approving the proposed Okwagbe Market Project, which they described as a critical commercial infrastructure needed to boost economic activities within the kingdom. He also appealed for the Mobilization of the Okwagbe Otutuama Ophorigbala Road which is very dear to the Ughievwen people
Dr. Kwode explained that the establishment of the Okwagbe Market would provide a central trading hub for farmers, traders, and artisans from Ughievwen and neighboring communities, create employment opportunities for youths and women, and further stimulate rural economic growth. He expressed confidence that Governor Oborevwori would give favourable consideration to the request as part of his administration’s ongoing commitment to inclusive development.
Dr. Kwode, an economist and development finance expert, further stated that the forum will closely monitor the projects on a weekly basis to ensure that the contractor adheres strictly to specifications and delivers within the agreed timeline
