Umar Anataku Shaibu: From Acting to Substantive, Fulfilling Destiny.

The emergence of Umar Anataku Shaibu as the substantive Provost is not merely a routine administrative progression. it is the fulfillment of destiny shaped by competence, resilience, and a proven record of transformational leadership. His period as Acting Provost was marked by bold decisions, strategic reforms, and tangible developments that have redefined the trajectory of the College.
Stepping into leadership at a critical time, he quickly demonstrated that he was not in office to maintain the status quo, but to drive meaningful change. One of the most historic milestones recorded during his tenure was the successful mobilization of students for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), coming a remarkable 46 years after the establishment of the College. This singular achievement not only corrected a long-standing institutional gap but also restored dignity and expanded career opportunities for graduates of the institution.
Understanding the importance of technology in modern education, Umar Anataku Shaibu championed the establishment of a standard, fully equipped Computer-Based Testing (CBT) Centre. This initiative has significantly improved the College’s capacity to conduct credible examinations, enhanced digital literacy among students, and positioned the institution in line with global best practices in educational assessment.
His administration also made deliberate efforts to strengthen institutional efficiency and leadership effectiveness. The procurement of an official SUV for principal officers was not just a symbolic gesture, but a practical step toward improving administrative mobility, coordination, and service delivery within and outside the College environment.
In the area of infrastructure, his impact is both visible and commendable. He initiated widespread renovation of dilapidated structures across the campus, giving the College a refreshed and more conducive learning environment. Particularly noteworthy is the remodeling and modernization of the old five-room Administrative Block, which has been transformed into a more functional, aesthetically pleasing, and efficient workspace that reflects the standards of a modern academic institution.
Academically, his tenure recorded significant progress with the successful accreditation of key programmes. This achievement underscores his commitment to quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and the continuous improvement of academic standards. It has not only strengthened the credibility of the College but also increased confidence among students, parents, and stakeholders.
Beyond these visible accomplishments, Umar Anataku Shaibu’s leadership style has been characterized by inclusiveness, strategic vision, and an unwavering commitment to progress. He has inspired confidence among staff and students alike, fostering a renewed sense of purpose and collective responsibility within the College community.
His confirmation as substantive Provost, therefore, comes as a well-earned recognition of his performance, dedication, and capacity to lead. It signals continuity, stability, and the consolidation of ongoing reforms. With his clear vision and tested leadership, the future of the College appears brighter, with greater prospects for academic excellence, infrastructural advancement, and institutional relevance.
Indeed, Umar Anataku Shaibu’s journey from Acting to Substantive Provost is a story of purpose fulfilled, leadership proven, and a destiny embraced for the greater good of the institution.
