The Unity Group Association has congratulated the Governor-elect, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo on his victory in the recently concluded governorship poll in the state.

The association also used the opportunity to commend Governor Yahaya Bello for his capacity and deliberate effort to combat insecurity in Kogi State.

The leader and founder of the association, Rekiya Akaaba gave the commendation during the conclusion of their end-of-the-year Thanksgiving and breaking of kola event held at Lugard Beach Hotel, Ganaja, Kogi State.

Rekiya noted that the successes achieved so far are the cumulative result of Governor Yahaya Bello’s pragmatic leadership style, extending her heartfelt well wishes for Governor Bello to assume a prominent role in the country after stepping down for Ododo.

She stated, “I am glad that the Governor-elect was tutored by the incumbent governor Yahaya Bello, who has over the years studied his principal and is ready to deliver when he is finally inaugurated to take over effective January 27, 2024.

“We are happy as a group that we all came out to vote for a leader who cares for the poor and the rich alike without negligence.

“It is our prayer that the Governor-elect succeeds Governor Bello and surpasses all that he has done and achieved in the state,” she added.

During the event, Avoyi Nwogu, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Electronic Media and the Convener of the Avoyi Team for Ododo, who expressed her satisfaction, added that her team had single-handedly gathered various groups to form a formidable force that campaigned for the governor-elect across the state and outside Kogi State.

Avoyi, accompanied by one of her executive members, Abdulhamid Isyaka, thanked the group and assured them of the incoming governor’s commitment to inclusivity as he steers the affairs of the state.

She urged the group to continue to support the government with prayers and constructive criticism, which could attract more dividends of democracy to the women.

Avoyi Nwogu stressed that the governor would continue to consolidate on established programmes and policies, and ensure the interests of women and youths in the state are prioritised.

Highlights of the event were the breaking of Kola.
