Unity in Diversity: Orokere-Amuro Community Celebrates Heritage on Dec 26

The Orokere-Amuro in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has concluded plans to mark Orokere Day celebration with a resounding call to preserve cultural heritage and promote unity among its people.

The cultural event will also witness the fund raising of N100 million for community development projects.

The epoch event is scheduled to hold on December 26, 2025, at MLGEA School Football Field, Orokere-Amuro, Mopamuro Local Government Areas of Kogi State.

The President, Orokere Welfare Association (OWA), Comrade Segun Peter, in a press statement on Tuesday in Lokoja, emphasised that culture remains the soul of Orokere-Amuro people, defining their identity, preserving history, and guiding conduct.

Peter stressed that the celebration will showcase Orokere’s rich cultural heritage, including language, attire, music, dance, cuisine, and customs.

He added the annual event will also highlight values of unity, resilience, dignity, and communal progress in Orokere Land.

“The event aimed to pass traditions to the younger generation, ensuring they remain rooted in values of hard work, respect for elders, and peaceful coexistence,” Peter said.

The President commended stakeholders for their dedication and reaffirmed commitment to promoting unity, development, and cultural preservation.

He urged Orokere sons and daughters at home and in diaspora to view their culture as a responsibility, living out its noble values daily.

The OWA President extends a heartfelt invitation to well-wishers, stakeholders, friends, and lovers of Orokere people to join in the celebration of Orokere Day, showcasing the community’s rich cultural heritage and unity.

He emphasized the importance of community participation in preserving Orokere’s traditions and values, urging attendees to embody the spirit of unity and progress that defines the occasion.

The occasion, to be chaired by Asiwaju Engr. Dr Prince Olatunji Olusoji, will be attended by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo as the Special Guest of Honour.

The Chairperson is Alhaja Bello Monisola Hannat; Chief Launcher, Distinguished Senator Steve Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District; and Co-Launcher, Hon. Leke Abejide, House of Rep member representing Yagba Federal Constituency.

Other Special guests of Honour include: Rt Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency; Otunba Olayinka Buraimoh; Engr. JK Odeyemi; Hon. Bola Ampitan; and Chief Silvanus Babatunde Elewa, among others.
