‘Unity Is Bedrock Of Progress’ – Bello Tells Kogi West Leaders In Abuja

Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, CON, has urged the people of the state to embrace peace and deepen unity as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

Bello made the call on Sunday while hosting party leaders from Kogi West Senatorial District at his residence in Abuja.

Responding to concerns raised by his visitors, the former governor warned that no divided group could hope to succeed, insisting that unity remains the bedrock of political progress and socio-economic development in the state.

“Let me first and foremost welcome all of you to my place this afternoon. I have listened to you all and I quite understand your concerns. The only lasting solution to our socio-political challenges in Kogi State is for us to work together in unity and create room for peace,” he said.

Bello recalled his eight-year tenure as governor and noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, who succeeded him, was building on the foundation of unity he laid among Kogi East, Central and West.

He warned that failure to remain united would leave the state vulnerable to outsiders bent on sowing division.

He acknowledged that differing political opinions were natural but urged mutual respect among party members, stressing that Kogi would progress faster when the majority stayed united around shared goals.

The former governor also commended the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd), who led the delegation, describing him as a dedicated patriot who has consistently served Kogi State well.

On the 2027 polls, Bello expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win Kogi State overwhelmingly, describing the prediction as sacrosanct given the state’s consistent pro-APC voting pattern. He charged party members to work towards a similar sweep for all APC candidates.

Earlier, Omodara, Alfred Bello, Esq., Hon. Fagbola, Esq., Hon. Olumoko, Rt Hon. Alfa Imam and other leaders reaffirmed their support for Governor Ododo, pushing for his re-election in 2028 in line with the political understanding with Kogi Central.

They said their backing was driven by a shared commitment to stable governance and development across the state.

The delegation also praised Bello for establishing Kogi State University, Kabba, calling it the fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration.
