KANO – In a solemn and unifying gesture, Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has called for lasting peace and political tolerance in Kano State, urging all stakeholders to set aside differences for the good of the state and the country.
The Vice President made this passionate appeal during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who passed away two weeks ago. The visit, which took place at the family residence in Kano, drew dignitaries from across the political spectrum.
Speaking at the gathering, Shettima emphasized the importance of unity in Kano, describing the state as a critical pillar in the northern region.
“Please and please, I plead with you not to allow politics to divide you. You should be united,” Shettima said, adding, “Kano is the heart of the North and I am from the North. May Allah bring unity among us.”
The condolence visit was also graced by Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, who warmly welcomed the Vice President on behalf of the people and government of Kano State.
“We thank you so much for coming to commiserate with us over the death of our father, grandfather. We pray for Almighty Allah to take you back home safely,” Governor Yusuf stated.
Also in attendance was the Kano State APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, signifying a moment of political harmony as members of different parties came together in mourning.
The family representative, Alhaji Sanusi Abbas, expressed appreciation for the high-profile visit and offered prayers for peace among political leaders in the state.
“May the demise of Galadiman Kano become an avenue for unity among political leaders in Kano,” he remarked.
Governor Yusuf was joined by key officials including the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Jibrin Falgore, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk, the Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, and members of the state executive council. The Vice President’s entourage also included notable political figures from various affiliations, showcasing a rare moment of unity and respect across party lines.
This gesture, according to observers, may signal a hopeful beginning toward mending frayed political relations in Kano and fostering collaboration in the interest of development and peace.
