Press Statement
Why Senator Dino Melaye and His Political Cronies Are Targeting Ambassador Umar Damagum – PDP Youth Leader, Kabba-Bunu

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) youth wing of Kabba/Bunu Local Government, led by Hon. Oluwakayode Emmanuel Eseyin, wishes to address the ongoing internal challenges within the party, particularly the actions of former Kogi State gubernatorial candidate, Senator Dino Melaye.

It has come to our attention that Senator Melaye and his associates have mounted a campaign against the party’s acting national chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, due to the current reforms aimed at promoting transparency and accountability within the PDP. Under Ambassador Damagum’s leadership, the party is experiencing a shift from past practices that allowed individuals to manipulate internal processes for personal gain.

Senator Melaye, who has faced multiple electoral defeats, including his recent bids for the Senate and Kogi governorship, has allegedly exploited party structures in the past by manipulating delegate lists and raising campaign funds that were never used for their intended purposes. These funds were reportedly diverted to personal expenses, including luxury purchases in Nigeria and Dubai.

The PDP youth stand firmly behind Ambassador Damagum’s leadership as acting national chairman of the party and his commitment to restoring integrity within the party. We condemn any efforts to undermine these reforms and call on the national leadership of the party to consider the suspension of Senator Dino Melaye by his ward executives and take appropriate actions, including his expulsion from the PDP.

For us in the PDP youth wing, the future of the party depends on the proper management of its affairs, and we will continue to support the acting national chairman Ambassador Damagum’s visionary leadership in body, soul, and spirit.

Signed,
Hon. Oluwakayode Emmanuel Eseyin
Youth Leader, People’s Democratic Party
Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area
