Why we must let Kogi West have the mandate for 2027

2027 is a decisive and critical moment in the political conversation of our dear Kogi State.

We, the people of Kogi East, we have had the rare privilege of governing our dear Kogi State from creation of the State till 2015. That is an average total of sixteen years. Between 2016 and now ahead of 2027, Kogi Central is currently governing our dear Kogi State.

2027, for the sake of fairness, equity and justice ought to be the turn of Kogi West. It is a vital moral burden that I know we the people of Kogi East, with our majority voting population, bear in mind.

I believe that we the people of Kogi East are people of honour, integrity, justice, equity and fairness.

God Almighty made us majority in Kogi State and also gave us the foresight and understanding to dictate the pace of politics in Kogi State.

For instance, Nupe are majority in Niger State. It is the Nupe leaders themselves who said zoning should be done, across Zone A, Zone B and Zone C, and that wisdom alone has helped ensure that no zone of Niger State is marginalised till today. It is an established though unwritten rule in Niger State that every zone of Niger State shall govern Niger State for eight years and then the power will rotate to another zone and that the moment it is the turn of a certain zone of the Niger State to govern the State, all the other zones will queue behind that particular zone and all the political parties in the State will zone their ticket to people in the zone whose turn it is.

Back to Kogi State as point of comparison, we Igalas being the majority tribe Kogi East and Kogi State, can use our majority status in the politics of the State to replicate similar feat in Kogi State and then it will become a legacy we will be remembered for, forever.

If however we Igalas say we will not support Kogi West for 2027, then we will have to wait for 32 years because when the power finally goes to West, they will say they want to rightfully do 16 years of their own, depending on how badly the struggled for the power before it finally got to them.

In terms of context of the people of Kogi Central who are currently governing our dear State, the fact is; Governor Ododo’s 4 years as it is currently ongoing is an extension of Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s Government who appealed to us at party level for consolidation, and we indeed gave him, the opportunity to so produce a successor from his zone to come and consolidate on his achievements as he requested of us in the APC.

As the consolidation mandate nears its end for power to rotate to another zone; I advise strongly to our leaders within the APC, we should not contest against Kogi West, so that by the time Kogi West is finishing its eight years by 2035, it means we would have waited for just eight years from 2027 for us to rightfully and honourably lay claim to power, but if we happen to wait for Kogi Central to finish 16 years first then we the people of Kogi East will have to wait for 16 years. Why should we wait for 32 years before we can reclaim power?

We APC members faithfully worked for Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s Government while it lasted, we never actually knew Governor Ododo at that decision level. It was Governor Yahaya Bello brought Alhaji Ododo and appealed to us to give him 4 years to come after him to consolidate on his achievements which we granted.

2027 is Kogi West turn. It is the moral thing to do. It is the honourable thing to do. It is the ethical thing to do, and I believe we have the conscience to make such decision, and I know we will anks such honorable decision of ensuring that the people of Kogi West gets power, come 2027.
