By Prisca Nguzo
Political leaders of Ohaji/Egbema council area of Imo State, under aegis of Ohaji/Egbema Progressive Leaders have thrown their weight behind the election of a candidate of Oru West LGA extraction to represent Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta, Oru West Federal Constituency at the green chamber of the National Assembly come 2027.
The Ohaji/Egbema political leaders who made this known in a release made available to newsmen shortly after their meeting held in Owerri on Tuesday, said their decision was based on the need to ensure justice, fairness, equity and inclusiveness as it regards to the political representation in the federal constituency.
In the release signed by Chief Maxwell Opara (National Chairman) and Mr. Kinsley Isinwa (National Secretary), the leaders noted that among the three council areas that make up the federal constitiency namely: Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West LGAs, “Oru West is one bereft of equal opportunity.”
They urged all and sundry in both Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta LGAs to, in the spirit of brotherliness, solidarity and good reasoning to eschew their personal interest and aspiration and align to their collective decision to support and votes only candidates from Oru West LGA for the reps seat.
The leaders said, “That as progressive and political leaders from Ohaji/Egbema LGA, we are well abreast with the political history of our federal constituency especially as it concerns our representation at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly.
“That from good record available, among the three local government areas that make up our federal constituency, viz: Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West LGAs., Oru West is one bereft of equal opportunity. Hence, while Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta have both occupied the seat at the Green Chamber for three times, Oru West has only been there once.
“That in the interest of fairness, equity, justice and inclusiveness that Oru West LGA should produce the next person to occupy the position in the spirit of brotherliness and solidarity.
“That we urge all political parties to, if possible, ensure that only candidates from Oru West LGA are elected to contest in the Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West LGAs Federal House of Representatives election.
“That in the same vein, we advice and appeal to our brothers and sisters from both Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta, who are aspiring to contest the said position, to reconsider and/or withdraw from the race to give equity a chance.
“That we pledged to galvanize the collective support and total votes of our people and beyond for our choice candidate from Oru West LGA for the election. However, the choice candidate must demonstrate capacity to offer quality representation for the overall development and well-being of our people and the Federal Constituency.
“That this decision is binding on every member of Ohaji/Egbema Progressive Leaders and all well meaning sons and daughters of Ohaji/Egbema LGA extraction.”
