…asserts that he is contesting 2027 election for the good of the Yagba people

The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency and House Committee Chairman on Customs and Excise, Rt. Hon. Leke Abejide, has described those calling for rotation arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections as merely expressing their frustration.
He pointed out that the arrangement has been destroyed by the same people who want to hide under the purported non-existent arrangement.
The award-winning lawmaker disclosed while chatting with journalists yesterday, stressing that the rotational arrangement was disrupted when Hon. Folorunsho Daniyan contested under ANPP in 2007 from Mopamuro Local Government, instead of a Yagba West local government candidates alone, thereby destroying the arrangement.
He recalled that in 2018, when he wanted to contest, a meeting was held where he appealed to Chief Henry Abimbola, the APC candidate at the time, to step down in order to uphold the rotation arrangement, but Abimbola refused.
Furthermore, in 2023, Engr. Folorunsho Olafemi from the same local government also contested against him, which he cited as evidence that the rotation arrangement is no longer being observed.
He acknowledged that some respected thoughtful leaders from the local government have met with him to discuss the way forward.
He pointed out that if he contests today, he is confident of winning 9 out of 10 wards in the local government.
He also stressed that anyone who wants to win an election in Yagba Federal Constituency must be able to win in the Oke Oyi axis and Yagba East generally, as these areas significantly influence the outcome of any election in the constituency.
He noted that Yagba East is effectively comprised of two local governments combined, resulting in a larger number of registered voters in the area compared to others.
Regarding the allegation that he was fraternizing with the ruling party, he asked rhetorically how he would have been able to execute substantial projects worth billions of naira in his constituency without collaborating with the APC.
He stressed that the purpose of politics is to develop the people, not to harm them, pointed out that he knows that his party don’t have the capacity to win the president at the center.
However, he clarified that his engagement with the APC was solely aimed at bringing development to his people and not for personal gain.
He emphasized that he still remains a bonafide member of the ADC.
“Those claiming I have decamped to the APC are mere rabble-rousers. I am still a bonafide member of the ADC. They should verify my records at the National Assembly; I am the party’s only elected member and I remain so.” He further stated, “The fact is, those spreading this misinformation are the same individuals attempting to forcibly take over the party. They have revealed their true intentions and hidden agendas. I will not collaborate with them, and I will take legal action to challenge their actions.”
