A socio-cultural organisation in Ebonyi state, Ezza Progressive Union (EPU) has lambasted the members of Great Ezekunna Elites club for not being useful to the progress and development of the state.
In a statement issued in Abakaliki by the President General of the union, Mr Tobias Offia, he noted that the club which is an association of business moguls and captain of Industries from Ezza Nation of the state was allegedly driven by selfish agenda and no plans for human capital development.
Offia expressed dismay that the club which is led by a business mogul, Chibuike Orogwu, popularly known as Baby Oku has failed to galvanised the club towards empowering any youth from the state.
“It is with great sadness that I express my displeasure on the activities of our brothers who formed Great Ezekunna Elites Club. This club by every standard supposed to be the hope for the development and empowerment of our people. Regrettably, the club has remained selfish and egocentric. They have become clearly opposite of Charity begins at home”.
“Since its existence, the club can’t point at anyone who has been assisted rather all they do is to spread bundles of money at every social events. And one may begin to question while they decided to arrogate themselves as “elites” of Ezekunna or perhaps they don’t know the meaning of “elites”.
“To start with, the President of the club, Chibuike Orogwu popularly known as Baby Oku lavishly buried his father in-law in Anambra State but he has not been useful to any Ebonyi youth either by way of empowerment or any financial assistance”. The same thing goes to all members of the club”.
“As wealthy as members of the club are, they can not boast of any infrastructural project anywhere in the state. And we may begin to ask..of what use is the club and their wealth? Is it to show off at any social events? How many of them has ultilized their contacts and connection to attract investors to the state? Absolutely none. The members of Great Elites of Ezekunna should emulate their contemporaries from Anambra State like Obi Cubana and the rest who raised and made some many millionaires”, Offia said.
The group further stressed that if the club doesn’t mend their ways and begin to strategize on how to be socially responsible for the needs of their people, they would be left with the only option to disown them.
Offia further called on all Ebonyi youths especially Ezza indigenes to be resolute and not to be distracted by the insensitivity of the Great Elites of Ezekunna in addressing some of their needs.
He commended the State governor, Francis Nwifuru for his passion and commitment to empowering Ebonyi youths through various skills and financial grants.
The National President noted that Nwifuru’s gesture was a clear demonstration that he was prepared for governance and urged to sustain all his infrastructural strides.
