2026 KABBA DAY: KARIMI SUPPORTERS STEAL THE SHOW, MOBILISE SUPPORT FOR TINUBU, SENATOR DESPITE COURT RULING
By Our Correspondent
The ancient town of Kabba in Kogi State was transformed into a sea of blue and white on Saturday as supporters of Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, staged a massive political display during the 2026 Kabba Day cultural festival, expressing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the senator ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The supporters, comprising All Progressives Congress (APC) faithful, political associates and loyalists of the lawmaker, took over major streets of the historic town with colourful displays, solidarity songs, dancing and political chants, attracting attention during the annual cultural celebration.
The mobilisation took place despite a recent Federal High Court ruling in Abuja in a suit challenging Senator Karimi’s emergence as the APC candidate for the Kogi West Senatorial District in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
The supporters, however, maintained their presence at the celebration, using the cultural gathering to demonstrate their political solidarity with the senator and reaffirm their support for the APC.
Although Senator Karimi was absent from the event, he was represented by a high-powered delegation that conveyed his goodwill message and developmental commitments to the people of Kabba.
In the message delivered on his behalf, the senator announced the release of another ₦30 million into the bank account of the Kabba Development Union (KDU), thereby fulfilling his earlier financial pledge to the community.
The latest disbursement brings his total financial contribution to Kabba to ₦50 million, following an earlier payment of ₦20 million.
Karimi reaffirmed his commitment to the holistic development of Kabba, Okunland and the entire Kogi West Senatorial District, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, human capital development and socio-economic advancement.
He commended the traditional rulers, community leaders and people of Kabba for sustaining the annual cultural festival, describing Kabba Day as an important platform for promoting unity, preserving cultural heritage and mobilising collective efforts towards community development.
The senator also used the occasion to call on the people of Kogi West to objectively assess the policies, economic reforms and development initiatives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration as the country approaches the 2027 presidential election.
He urged his constituents to remain engaged in the political process and support the administration’s re-election bid, while reaffirming his commitment to effective legislative representation and the delivery of democratic dividends across the senatorial district.
According to him, his development agenda remains focused on improving public infrastructure, expanding educational opportunities, empowering young people, developing human capacity and supporting vulnerable members of society.
The 2026 Kabba Day celebration attracted prominent sons and daughters of Kabba, traditional rulers, political leaders, community stakeholders and dignitaries from different parts of Kogi State and beyond.
The annual festival, which celebrates the rich cultural heritage and historical identity of the ancient Owe community, also provided an opportunity for indigenes and stakeholders to reflect on the unity, development and collective aspirations of Kabba.
The political mobilisation by Karimi’s supporters added a significant political dimension to this year’s celebration, as attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 general elections.
