KEHINDE EMMANUEL, ILORIN
An All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao, popularly known as “Allow Alao,” on Tuesday formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 gubernatorial election, unveiling a four-point development blueprint tagged “Redemption Mission 2027.”
The declaration, held at the Emmanuel Alayande Teachers Resource Centre in Samanda, Ibadan, drew party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the state.
Addressing the gathering, Alao said his ambition was driven by a commitment to reposition Oyo State for prosperity and restore its status as a pacesetter.
“Today, with profound humility and an unshakeable belief in our collective destiny, I stand before you to formally declare my intention to contest for the office of Governor under the banner of the APC,” he said.
The aspirant emphasized that his decision followed extensive consultations with party elders and engagement with residents across markets, farms, schools, and hospitals.
According to him, the state is at a critical juncture and requires deliberate reforms anchored on agriculture, healthcare, education, and civil service transformation.
On agriculture, Alao pledged to modernize farming through mechanization, establish processing zones across senatorial districts, and launch initiatives to boost food production and agro-industrial linkages.
“We will return dignity to farming and make it a profitable venture. Our goal is to ensure we eat what we grow and grow what we eat,” he stated.
In the health sector, he promised a comprehensive overhaul of primary healthcare centres and general hospitals, alongside a renewed focus on preventive care, sanitation, and reduction of maternal and infant mortality.
Describing education as a critical pillar, Alao announced plans to declare an “education emergency,” focusing on infrastructure rehabilitation, teacher welfare, and enhanced emphasis on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as digital literacy.
He also outlined a civil service reform agenda aimed at entrenching merit-based recruitment, digital governance, improved welfare, and accountability mechanisms within the state workforce.
“A government is only as effective as its machinery. We will build a responsive, efficient, and technology-driven civil service that serves the people,” he added.
Appealing to party leaders, the aspirant urged them to ensure the emergence of a credible and competent candidate capable of uniting the APC and winning the general election.
He stressed the need for a candidate with character, capacity, and compassion, warning against decisions driven by sentiment or financial inducement.
Alao referenced the leadership model of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that progressive governance, when properly executed, delivers long-term benefits.
“2027 is not just another election; it is our redemption mission. If we get it right at the primary, we will set Oyo State on the path of sustainable progress,” he said.
Reaffirming his credentials, Alao highlighted his background in engineering, project execution, and public service values, positioning himself as a unifying figure within the party.
“This is not just my ambition; it is our collective mission. Together, we can engineer a future of peace, progress, and prosperity for Oyo State,” he concluded.
