My Priority Is President Tinubu’s Re-election, Says Leke Abejide
By Samuel Temiloluwa
The member representing Yagba Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide, has declared that the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election remains one of his major political priorities.
Abejide made the declaration while speaking at his homecoming rally in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State, where he pledged to mobilise support for the President in Kano State, where he is based and where he established his business network before venturing into politics.
The lawmaker, who said he was recently installed as the Asiwaju of Yorubaland in Kano, noted that after the Hausa population, the Yoruba constitute the second-largest ethnic group in the state.
He said he was working with relevant stakeholders in Kano State to mobilise one million votes for President Tinubu’s re-election among the Yoruba community and other supporters in the state.
According to Abejide, his commitment to President Tinubu goes beyond political affiliation, stressing that he would continue to use his position and network to promote the President’s re-election bid.
He said, “My priority is President Tinubu’s election,” adding that he was prepared to rally support for the President ahead of the 2027 election.
He further stated, “If President Bola Tinubu wins and I do not win, it pays me. But if I win and the President does not win, I will resign from the Federal House of Representatives.”
Abejide said the proposed mobilisation would involve engaging communities, political stakeholders, youths and other groups, particularly among Yoruba indigenes in Kano State, in support of the President’s candidacy.
He also expressed confidence that Nigerians would carefully assess the policies and programmes of the Tinubu administration as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
The lawmaker also declared his support for the re-election of Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, pointing out that the Nigerian Constitution gives the governor the opportunity to seek a second term in office.
Abejide said he was ready to mobilise support for Governor Ododo’s re-election, just as he urged the people to vote for President Tinubu, himself and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming elections.
He said the interest of the people should remain central to political engagement, urging his supporters and constituents to remain united, peaceful and focused.
The lawmaker’s declaration comes as political activities and consultations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with politicians and political groups beginning to mobilise support for their preferred candidates.
Abejide said he would continue to project Yagba Federal Constituency positively while contributing to national political discussions and initiatives that could benefit the people.
