Abejide set to Dump ADC for APC, Cites Party’s Internal Strife
Rt Hon. Leke Abejide, the member representing Yagba Federal Constituency and House Committee Chairman on Customs and Excise, has hinted on his decision to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming days.
Abejide made this known at a press conference in Abuja, citing the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) internal conflicts and pending court cases as reasons for his departure.
“The problem plaguing my party, ADC, may not end soon since the substantial issue pending in court has not been attended to,” Abejide stated. “Hence, the party might not have the opportunity of presenting any candidates for elective positions in the 2027 general elections.”
Abejide expressed frustration with the ADC’s leadership, particularly David Mark, stating that they are “proofing stubborn” instead of addressing the party’s issues.
He noted that the Supreme Court’s decision to return the party’s case to a lower court signals that the substantial issue is still pending, and it may take weeks to resolve, leaving the party unable to present candidates for the 2027 general elections.
Abejide, who previously contested on the ADC platform in 2019 and 2023, described his return to the APC as “returning home”.
He also urged Northern Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu’s second term, emphasizing the necessity of the current administration’s reforms, including subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.
“Every renowned economist will agree that the subsidy removal and unification of exchange rate is key,” Abejide said.
