Adebowale Adedokun; One Year On, Strengthening Transparency, Accountability, Efficiency in BPP,

The appointment of Dr Adebowale Adedokun as the new Director General, Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in November, 2024, was greeted with loud ovation, particularly with his versed and on the job experience spanned for over two decades, and determination to transform the hitherto, moribund organization.
With Dr Adebowale Adedokun as the new helmsman, transparency, accountability and efficiency became the core of it’s transformation and innovations under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The on the job experience of the new Director General, Chief Executive Officer of Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, he commenced the process of ensuring the execution of it’s statutory functions and mandate of ensuring the regulatory roles of overseeing the procurement process of Ministries, Departments and Agencies that was overlooked, and reformed it to the current realities and best practices.
Already, conversant with the workings of the organization, the cooperation extended by the workers through constant training and retraining, as well as capacity building to inundate them with the modest and modern procurement process in the country.
The new leadership of BPP one year at the mantle of leadership heightened the supervisory roles of all procurement processes ,so as to standardize all needed requirements to avoid sharp practices.
Charged with approvals and issuance of “Certificate of No Objections” for some jobs in line with the procurement process and law in MDA’s , the new leadership has instilled the trust in Nigerians, organizations of what comes out of BPP, with utmost trust and confidence.
According to Dr Adebowale Adedokun’s description, they have built so much process in BPP which made such issuance of “Certificate of No Objections” like a certificate from a renowned university.
Adebowale also in the last one year introduced series of programs that will ease online interactions and transactions with the BPP and MDA’s, other organizations both local and international.
He embarked on seminars , symposiums, workshops and talkshops both locally and internationally to expose staffers of the agency to the intricacies of procurement processes.
The Director General also collaborated particularly with the World Bank, other foreign and local organizations, as well as galvanized through the introduction of the Sustainable, Procurement, Environment and Social Standard Enhancement Project, SPESSE, to close gap of procurement process, good output with a view to ensuring good governance and abhor corrupt tendencies.
At the one day program stakeholders retreat under the leadership of Dr Adebowale Adedokun on the “National procurement certification framework” it dwelled on the improvement and collaboration between the stakeholders, with a view to deploying the best procurement practices that had taken a positive toll on the staffers.
He stated that the public sector is expected to key into the new format and enjoined the private sector to also leverage on the new program to improve their procurement process.
He said the current administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is eager to put to practice the new format, through enhancement and improvement as well as application by Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDA’s.
With the series of programs that had improved the service delivery of the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, one year down the line , the leadership of Dr Adebowale Adedokun has turned around the agency with distinct performance and achievements and going forward.
