In a separate but equally significant development, Senator Barau I. Jibrin met with members of the movement advocating for the division of Potiskum Local Government Area in Yobe State. The group, led by Hon. Ibrahim Umar Potiskum, a former member of the House of Representatives, presented a formal memorandum requesting that Potiskum LGA be split into two distinct entities: Potiskum East and Potiskum West.
The rationale behind this demand lies in the need for more efficient governance, better resource allocation, and improved service delivery to the people of Potiskum, who feel underserved by the current administrative structure. The request reflects a growing trend in Nigerian local governance aimed at bringing government closer to the people.
Senator Barau assured the delegation that their concerns were valid and would receive due legislative consideration. “When we resume from our annual recess,” he promised, “all such requests, including yours, will be given the necessary attention to ensure that the voice of Potiskum is heard and that equitable development is achieved.”
