APC Picks Governorship Candidates From Zones That Never Produced Governors Since 1999
The All Progressives Congress has fielded Governorship candidates from four districts that have never produced a governor in their respective states since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.
According to a compilation released in May 2026 by Hon. Adeyemi Wasiu Olaitan Omo Imam, the four APC flagbearers are:
1. Kwara North – Rt. Hon. Engr. Salihu Yakubu Danladi

2. Yobe North – Baba Malam Wali
3. Adamawa Central – Ahmed Tijani Galadima
4. Ogun West – Sen. Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi
The development has drawn attention in Kwara State, where supporters of the Kwara North project are calling for equity, justice, and fairness ahead of the 2027 elections. Backers of the zone are rallying under the “1Kwara Project 2027” banner, with the slogan “God will guide us.”
None of the four senatorial districts listed have produced a governor in their states since 1999, making the APC’s choice of candidates from these zones a notable shift in the party’s zoning calculations.
