APC Presidential Primary: Oborevwori Consolidates Delta for Tinubu’s Landslide National Mandate

By Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Esq.

Delta State’s political landscape is gradually reflecting a stronger culture of party discipline and structured mobilisation under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, a development clearly demonstrated in the conduct of the APC presidential primary.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged victorious in the nationwide APC presidential primary held on May 23, defeating his only challenger, businessman Mr Stanley Osifo, who has since conceded defeat. The result has been formally affirmed by the party leadership, effectively consolidating Tinubu’s position as the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The party is expected to present the certificate of return and its flag to the President at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja. The event will bring together governors, members of the National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee, and other key stakeholders across the country.

In Delta State, the exercise recorded 407,646 votes across 25 local government areas, reflecting strong grassroots mobilisation and a coordinated party structure.

As state coordinator and returning officer, Governor Oborevwori supervised a process defined by orderliness and effective stakeholder engagement. His handling of the exercise reinforced confidence in the capacity of the state leadership to sustain internal stability and manage political structures with discipline.

Tinubu’s victory formally consolidates his mandate within the APC ahead of 2027 and further underscores his administration’s reform-driven agenda. Key policy interventions, including fuel subsidy removal and foreign exchange unification, have expanded fiscal space for states and improved investor confidence, despite short-term economic pressures.

In Delta, the outcome reflects increasing alignment between state party structures and the national direction of the APC. Oborevwori’s coordinating role highlights a leadership style anchored on institutional balance, consultation, and effective political management.

Party stakeholders across Delta State are commended for their unity, discipline, and peaceful participation, which ensured a credible and seamless exercise.

Ultimately, the Delta result forms part of a broader national consolidation following the conclusion of the APC presidential primary. With Tinubu’s candidacy now settled and party structures increasingly aligned, the APC enters the 2027 electoral cycle with clearer direction, strengthened cohesion, and renewed political momentum.
