Kogi West Decides: “No System Can Stop Senator Sunday Karimi’s Second Term” – Hon. Afolabi
By Temiloluwa Sunday
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi West, Hon. Kehinde Afolabi, has declared that no political arrangement or opposition strategy can prevent Senator Sunday Steven Karimi from securing a second term in 2027.
Afolabi made the statement while reacting to the circulation of a fake result sheet for the Kogi West APC primary held on Monday, 18 May, pointed out that the doctored result wrongly allocated scores to Samuel Aro.
Speaking to party supporters in Kabba, Afolabi described the fake results as a desperate move by political jobbers and their sponsors to create unnecessary tension in the zone.
He said Karimi’s performance in the Senate and connection with the grassroots have made him difficult to dislodge.
Afolabi noted that it is on record that Hon. Samuel Aro had graciously withdrawn from participating in the Senate primary following wide consultations with party leaders and in the spirit of unity.
He said Aro’s decision came after the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “How then does someone who has withdrawn from participation suddenly become a winner in a contest he was not part of?” Afolabi asked.
“Senator Karimi has worked, and the people can see it,” Afolabi said. “From Yagba to Kogi, from Lokoja to Ijumu and Kabba/Bunu, projects are ongoing, and he is accessible to the people. No system, no matter how arranged, can stop him.”
He cited Karimi’s focus on education, healthcare, road rehabilitation, and youth empowerment as key reasons for the growing support across the senatorial district.
Afolabi also noted that the senator has maintained unity within the APC in Kogi West, avoiding the internal disputes that weakened past incumbents.
“Leadership is about results and relationship,” Afolabi added. “Senator Karimi has both. The people will decide in 2027, and I am confident they will reward him with another term.”
Senator Karimi, who was elected in 2023 to represent Kogi West, has yet to formally declare for a second term, but his activities and the mobilization of support groups suggest preparations are underway.
