Assembly inaugurates ministry of culture, tourism, seeks partnership to attract development in Kogi
The Kogi State House of Assembly on Friday inaugurated the house Committee on culture and Tourism.
Inaugurating the committee at the floor of the house, the Deputy Speaker representing Dekina/Okura Rt. Hon. Paul Enema noted that many countries are surviving on tourism hence the need for Kogi State to capitalize on the abundant tourism environment within the nooks and crannies of the State.
Hon. Enema, however, lamented on many abandoned hotels project in Kogi State.
” What is happening to confluence beach hotel, Kogi hotel and many more that was build by previous administration. Why can’t we generate revenue from this hotel to develop our State. We are also aware that some of you are embarking on foreign trips without your Committee members. This must stop immediately. By the power transmitted to me, I hereby declare committee on culture and Tourism inaugurated”.
The lawmaker charged the ministry to partner with the Assembly to achieve the desired results in Kogi State.
Responding, the Kogi State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism Hon. Salifu Idachaba commended Governor Yahaya Bello for giving them the opportunity to serve in Kogi State.
He highlighted the key achievement of the ministry which includes winning the Abuja national culture festival, wining cultural festival in Egypt, Tunisia and Congo Brazavile, wining the best enterprising state in Nigeria in 2020.
Earlier, the Chairman House Committee on Culture and Tourism Hon. Idowu Ibikunle explained that,
the process leading to the reconstitution of the Committee,
as announced by the Rt. Honourable Speaker, Aliyu Yusuf is a legislative oversight function of the House of Assembly and a statutory mandate to provide for proper and effective Iegislation to the Ministry activities in line with its provisions in section 4 sub-section 6-9 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.
“It is an innovative ideas and approaches to improve on the progress of program as it relates to performance, costs and time schedule relative to your Ministry’s program/project plan and to enhance decision-making processes.
“In the spirit of collaboration and continuity, I would like to take this opportunity to join in the euphoria that greeted the passage into law and the speed it takes for the Executive Governor of Kogi State His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello to assented the Bill establishing the Kogi State Hotels and Tourism Board into law, which now empowers (the Ministry for Culture and Tourism) to chart a new course in the area of self-sustenance through speedy
revenue generation and mobilization.
“As a new Committee in the 8th Assembly, we note the lavender of the fresh air of the Bill, which we believe will in no small measure ease and support us to navigate obstacles, learn from past mistakes, and evolve along the way by providing laws that will enhance growth prospect towards ministry
development journey.
“We would be guided by dreams; dreams of greater tomorrow to transcend many challenges and stigmas that have not allow the Ministry for better performance, and insist that Our dreams for the sector will be turned into reality
for the benefits of Kogi State”.
