BANDITRY IN KOGI WEST: RESIDENTS LIVE IN FEAR AS HON. SANNI JIDE CRIES FOR URGENT INTERVENTION, CALLS ON FG AND STATE GOVERNMENT TO ACT FAST

The rising wave of banditry across parts of Kogi West Senatorial District has continued to generate serious concern, as residents lament worsening insecurity that has made normal life increasingly difficult in several communities.

Kabba-Bunu Ijumu Federal house of representatives candidate under NDC Hon. Sanni Jide has raised a strong alarm over the situation, describing it as unbearable and unacceptable, warning that people in affected areas can no longer sleep with both eyes closed due to constant fear of attacks.

According to him, the growing insecurity has placed enormous psychological and economic pressure on families, farmers, traders, and rural dwellers who now live in daily uncertainty over their safety.

He noted that communities across five major local government areas in Kogi West, including Kabba/Bunu, Ijumu, Yagba East, Yagba West, and Mopamuro, have continued to experience increasing threats from criminal elements, leading to displacement, fear, and disruption of socio-economic activities.

Hon. Sanni Jide called on both the Federal Government and the Kogi State Government to urgently intensify security operations in the region, stressing that more funding, intelligence support, and deployment of security personnel are needed to curb the menace.

He further urged security agencies to adopt proactive strategies, including improved surveillance, community policing, and swift response mechanisms to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.

He expressed concern that rural communities, which serve as the backbone of agriculture and local production, are becoming deserted due to fear of kidnapping and bandit attacks, warning that continued neglect could worsen food insecurity and economic instability in the region.

While sympathizing with victims of recent attacks, he called for unity among traditional rulers, youth groups, and community leaders to support security agencies with credible intelligence that can help track and eliminate criminal networks.

Hon. Sanni Jide reaffirmed his commitment to standing with the people, insisting that peace and security remain the foundation of any meaningful development, and must therefore be treated as a top priority by all levels of government.

He concluded by appealing for immediate and sustained action, emphasizing that the people of Kogi West deserve to live in peace, dignity, and safety without fear of sudden attacks or displacement.
