Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots mobilisation, party unity and accelerated development in Kano North Senatorial District, announcing a package of empowerment support for participating organisations during a special interactive session with stakeholders from the district.
The session, organised by the Kano North APC Campaign Council, brought together political stakeholders and grassroots organisations from the 13 local government areas that make up the senatorial district to discuss development, political mobilisation and ways of strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The gathering also witnessed the formal reception of Alhaji Saidu Gas Tsanyawa and his supporters, who recently left the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the APC.
The participating groups included Academic Ambassadors for Barau, led by Professor Sani Muktar; Kano North Supervisory Councillors, led by Faizu Bichi; Kano North Yan Akwatu, led by Idris Faruruwa; and former NNPP members led by Alhaji Saidu Gas Tsanyawa.
During the interactive session, representatives of the groups commended Senator Barau for his interventions, empowerment initiatives and support programmes across Kano North and the state, describing them as unprecedented in their reach and impact.
The stakeholders also expressed their appreciation for his engagement with grassroots organisations and called for sustained collaboration to promote development and strengthen the party’s presence across the district.
Responding, Senator Barau appreciated the participants for their confidence and support, assuring them that he remained committed to representing their interests and delivering more democratic dividends.
He described grassroots engagement as an important means of understanding the needs of the people, assessing the impact of government programmes and ensuring that development initiatives reach communities at the local level.
The Deputy Senate President warmly welcomed Tsanyawa and his supporters into the APC, assuring them of fairness, equal opportunities and a sense of belonging within the party.
He said the APC remained open to all Nigerians who were committed to national progress, peace and development, stressing that political differences should not prevent collective efforts to improve the lives of citizens.
Tinubu’s projects in Kano North
Senator Barau also highlighted several federal government projects in Kano North, which he attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities, strengthening security institutions, improving infrastructure and stimulating economic activities.
Among the projects he listed were the Federal University of Science and Technology in Kabo, the Police Service Commission Training School in Kabo, the Immigration Training School in Bichi and the Civil Defence Training School in Gwarzo.
He further cited the ongoing construction of a power station in Dawanau, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, valued at N30 billion, as well as another power project in Rano facilitated through his efforts.
The Kano–Gwarzo–Dayi road project, which has resumed after earlier challenges involving the contractors, was also identified as one of the important infrastructure projects expected to improve transportation, facilitate trade and strengthen connections between communities.
According to the Deputy Senate President, the projects reflect the importance of sustained engagement between elected representatives and the Federal Government in attracting development initiatives to their constituencies.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his responsiveness to requests for projects and interventions intended to address the needs of Kano State, saying the administration had demonstrated a willingness to support development initiatives in the state.
The projects, he added, would contribute to human capital development, security training, electricity supply and economic growth, while creating opportunities for residents and businesses.
Acknowledges economic hardship
Addressing the economic challenges facing Nigerians, Senator Barau acknowledged that many households continued to experience difficulties but urged citizens not to lose hope.
He expressed optimism that collective responsibility, sustained government efforts and cooperation among political leaders and communities would help the country overcome its challenges.
He noted that economic pressures were being experienced in different parts of the world but maintained that leaders must remain focused on practical solutions, development and policies capable of improving citizens’ living conditions.
He urged APC members and supporters to remain united and work collectively towards the success of the party at all levels of government, including the Presidency, governorship, National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly.
Barau stressed that his political engagement was not intended to promote hostility against any individual or group, but to advance unity, peace and development in Kano North and beyond.
He called on party stakeholders to avoid unnecessary divisions and concentrate on building a stronger political organisation capable of responding to the aspirations of the people.
Empowerment support for grassroots groups
As part of efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and improve the operational capacity of participating organisations, Senator Barau announced a package of empowerment assistance for the groups.
The package included a Galaxy vehicle and N5 million for each participating group, motorcycles for advisers and supervisory councillors, and 13 motorcycles for Yan Dangwale to support their mobility and grassroots engagement.
The intervention, according to the announcement, was intended to assist the organisations in carrying out their activities, reaching more communities and maintaining closer contact with residents across the district.
The support also underscored the importance of grassroots structures in political organisation, community engagement and the communication of development priorities between elected representatives and their constituents.
Senator Barau thanked Almighty Allah for the successful gathering and commended the Kano North APC Campaign Council for organising the session.
He also expressed appreciation to the participating organisations and other stakeholders for their continued support, confidence and commitment to the development of the district.
He reaffirmed his determination to strengthen the APC, support President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and work towards a more prosperous Kano North and a greater Nigeria.
The meeting forms part of continuing efforts by the Kano North APC Campaign Council to deepen engagement with political stakeholders and grassroots organisations across the district’s 13 local government areas, with party leaders emphasising unity, mobilisation and development as central priorities.
