In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the victims were said to have been attacked with dangerous weapons, resulting in fatal injuries.

The deceased were identified as Fatima Abubakar, aged 35, and her six children, whose names and ages were yet to be officially released as of press time.

According to the police, the attack was reported through a distress call received at approximately 12:10 p.m., prompting an immediate response from security operatives.

Reacting swiftly to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, ordered the deployment of a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to the scene to secure the area and commence preliminary investigations.

The victims were evacuated from the residence and rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

The police command further disclosed that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to take over the case and conduct a thorough and discreet investigation aimed at unraveling the circumstances surrounding the attack and apprehending those responsible.

“The Kano State Police Command received a distress call at approximately 12:10 p.m. on January 17, 2026, reporting a brutal attack on the household of Haruna Bashir at Dorayi Charanchi Quarters,” the statement read.

It added, “The victims were attacked with dangerous weapons, resulting in fatal injuries.”
The incident has thrown the Dorayi Charanchi community into deep mourning, with residents describing the deceased woman as peaceful and devoted to her family. Many expressed shock and fear over the brazen nature of the attack, calling for improved security in the area.

The police command appealed to members of the public to assist ongoing investigations by providing any useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
“Members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts or identity of the assailants are advised to report to the nearest police station or contact the command,” the statement said.

The command assured residents that no stone would be left unturned in bringing the culprits to justice and restoring public confidence in security across the state.
“The Kano State Police Command extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, the people of Dorayi Charanchi, and the entire people of Kano State over this unfortunate incident,” the statement concluded.

Investigations are ongoing, and the police have pledged to keep the public informed as further details emerge.
