BYM Condemns Killing of Two Youths in Rim, Demands Stronger Security

By Peter Azi – Jos

The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has condemned the killing of two youths in Rim community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, following an attack allegedly carried out by armed Fulani terrorists.

The Association, under the leadership of Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, Esq., expressed deep concern over the latest attacks in Rim and Wereng communities, saying the incidents had further heightened fear and insecurity among residents.

According to a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of BYM, Rwang Tengwong, the attack in Rim on Wednesday, September 3, 2026, claimed the lives of two youths identified as Joel Bwede, 39, and Justics Dadong, 22.

The Association said the deaths had plunged the families of the victims and the wider community into grief, stressing that recurring killings should not be allowed to become normal in Plateau State.

BYM lamented what it described as the increasing reduction of human lives to mere statistics in reports of violence, noting that every casualty represents a family devastated, dreams abruptly terminated and a community left traumatised.

“This should not become the new normal in Plateau State,” the Association stated.

The group strongly condemned the attacks and called on the Federal Government, Plateau State Government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to protect residents and their property.

BYM also cited Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which provides that the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government.

The Association consequently demanded a stronger security presence in vulnerable communities across the area, improved intelligence gathering and effective rapid-response mechanisms to prevent further attacks.

It further called for the immediate investigation of the incident and the arrest and prosecution of those found responsible for the killings.

While extending its condolences to the families of Bwede and Dadong and the people of Rim, BYM urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing relevant information that could assist in preventing further attacks.

The Association stressed that government must do more to secure communities, insisting that every life matters and that the people of Plateau State deserve to live in safety, dignity and peace.

The statement was signed by Rwang Tengwong, National Publicity Secretary, Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM).
