Chief Best Umukoro, Aide to the Delta State Governor on Community Development, has applauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for approving automatic scholarship awards for the best graduating students across the four state-owned universities—an initiative he described as visionary, youth-centered, and deeply transformational.
The policy, announced by the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board through its Executive Secretary, Dr. Godfrey Enita, provides full funding for outstanding graduates to pursue Master’s and Ph.D. programmes in accredited Nigerian universities. The beneficiaries will emerge from Delta State University, Abraka; Southern Delta University, Ozoro; University of Delta, Agbor; and Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba.
According to Chief Umukoro, the governor’s decision reflects a leadership style anchored on merit, fairness, and long-term investment in human capital, which are the key pillars of the M.O.R.E. Agenda. He stated that the automatic scholarship scheme is one of the most impactful educational policies introduced in recent times, adding that it will redefine academic motivation, reward excellence, and inspire thousands of students across Delta State.
By approving automatic scholarships for the best graduating students, our Governor has reaffirmed his belief in education as the strongest tool for shaping the future and driving Delta State’s development” Chief Umukoro said.
Speaking further, he stressed that the governor’s gesture is a bold statement of commitment toward empowering young Deltans, noting that the initiative will help reduce the financial burdens that often hinder brilliant graduates from furthering their studies.
Chief Umukoro also commended Dr. Enita , the Bursary and Scholarship Board for effectively driving the governor’s vision, ensuring transparency, due process, and accessibility in the implementation process.
The governor’s decision, he added, places Delta State among the leading sub-national governments in Nigeria with structured incentives for academic distinction, further positioning the state’s universities as centres of excellence and competitiveness.
“With this scholarship policy, Governor Oborevwori is raising a new generation of Deltans who are not only educated but globally competitive,” he said. “It is a legacy that will outlive his administration.”
The automatic scholarship scheme is expected to boost academic commitment among undergraduates across the state’s tertiary institutions, stimulate healthy intellectual competition, and strengthen Delta State’s ranking as an educationally progressive state.
Chief Umukoro concluded by urging students to take advantage of the opportunity by striving for excellence, assuring them that the Oborevwori administration remains committed to sustaining policies that uplift youths and build a prosperous future for the state
