CNPP threatens to boycott Council polls in Kogi, passes vote of no confidence on SIEC

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, (CNPP) has threatened to boycott the forthcoming Local Government election slated for 19th October 2024 in Kogi State.

The Kogi State Chairman of CNPP Comrade Mohammed Kabir Abdullahi disclosed this in a statement made available to Journalists on Thursday.

Abdullahi, who passed a vote of no confidence on the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission, (KOSIEC) insisted that the electoral body has failed to carry relevant stakeholders along prior to the council polls.

The CNPP Chairman averred that the the preparation for the forthcoming Local Government election in Kogi State lacks transparency in the whole process.

“It is totally unacceptable for KOSIEC to be organizing training ahead of the Local Government election without any political parties in attendance. Up till this moment, we are yet to know the modality for the council election,

“They are making us to conclude that before you participate in an election in Kogi State, you must belong to their cabal or secret cult. KOSIEC is supposed to be a neutral body but unfortunately, what we are seeing today, the reverse is the case.

“It will be a rape on democracy if the electoral body dances to the tune of the APC just to allow their foot Soldiers in power. For how long are we going to continue like this? Nigeria is not a banana Republic and Kogi State can not be running a parallel Country inside a sovereign nation like ours.

“It will be a curse to our present and future generation if as stakeholders today, we fold our arms and allow some power drunk individuals deny innocent Kogites purposeful representation at the grassroot. Nigeria is undergoing political reforms which must be sustained.

“It is against this backdrop, we are informing the world that CNPP might back out of this council polls in Kogi State because we have lost confidence on the electoral body” he warned.

Abdullahi emphacized that the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) in Kogi State has deployed “repressive styles” to suppress all other political parties and their members not to have relevance in the circulation of sensitive and none sensitive materials for the election.

He, however, disclosed that there will be an emergency meetings among CNPP members on Thursday 17th October 2024 to decide either to continue or outrightly boycott the council polls in Kogi State.
