PDP Renaissance Urge Imo Lawmaker to Tone Down Rhetoric on PDP Crisis
A group,Peoples Democratic Party Renaissance has urged the current member representing Idiato North in Imo State to temper his public pronouncements regarding the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group advised the lawmaker to allow other party organs, such as the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the Governors’ Forum, to intervene, warning that the situation was becoming a “one-man show.”
Speaking on the issue, Douglas Peterson highlighted the importance of party unity, commending recent efforts by the PDP Governors’ Forum and the BoT to seek peaceful resolutions.
He advised the legislator to focus on his legislative duties, noting that his voice is critically needed in the National Assembly to address national issues.
“It’s becoming a one-man show,” Okai said, pointing out that the lawmaker often holds press conferences and issues statements alone, without the involvement of other party members.
He called on both the House and Senate Minority Leaders, including Senator Abba Moro, to actively collaborate with the BoT in fostering unity and finding an amicable solution to the crisis.
Douglas also warned that the division among the governors, many of whom are eyeing the presidency, could further exacerbate the party’s troubles.
He emphasized that the BoT offers the best path forward and urged the PDP to comply with court orders while seeking legal remedies to avoid a repeat of the Modu Sheriff and Markarfi factions that polarized the party for years.
He also criticized Ugo Chinyere, a prominent figure in the Rivers State crisis, describing his involvement as unhelpful since he is not from Rivers State.
Douglas labeled Chinyere’s actions as those of a “busybody,” questioning his motives.
While appealing for peace, he stressed that resolving the political crisis in Rivers State is crucial to prevent the PDP from losing the state to the opposition.
“I urge all stakeholders to exercise restraint in their statements, particularly as the Governor of Rivers State himself has been calling for peace.”
