Coincidence of Ramadan and Lent: MOY Calls for Sincerity of Purpose in Governance
As Muslims observe Ramadan and Christians journey through Lent, Hon Musa Olumayowa Yakubu (MOY) has described this period as a powerful moment for reflection — not just for individuals, but especially for those in leadership.
According to him, it is not common for the two major faiths to be in seasons of fasting and deep spiritual reflection at the same time. He believes this coincidence carries a message: a reminder that leaders must govern with conscience, sincerity, and the fear of God.
“Both Ramadan and Lent teach sacrifice, self-control, repentance, and compassion,” MOY said. “If we truly understand what these seasons mean, they should influence how we treat people and how we manage public trust.”
He emphasized that governance goes beyond occupying positions or making speeches. It is about fairness, justice, and delivering meaningful impact to ordinary citizens. For him, fasting should not end at personal devotion — it should shape public conduct, decision-making, and responsibility.
MOY urged leaders to use this sacred period for honest self-examination, to ask difficult questions about their stewardship, and to recommit themselves to serving the people with integrity.
He concluded by praying that this rare overlap of Ramadan and Lent will strengthen unity, promote accountability, and inspire a renewed sense of purpose in leadership for the good of all.
