Borno State — Dr. Ali Bukar Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman (North) of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on politicians elected under the party’s banner to prioritize good governance and maintain open-door policies toward citizens. He emphasized that effective leadership is critical for ensuring a successful outing in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an engagement in Maiduguri, Borno State, Dalori urged APC officeholders to recognize the importance of their relationship with the electorate, highlighting that campaigns for the next election cycle would gain momentum as early as 2025. He advised politicians to safeguard their support base by delivering results and engaging directly with constituents.
“The electorate are our shop; they are our capital in the business of politics, and they are like our wares,” Dalori stated. “If you don’t have the people, no fellow politician will approach you for any help to win his election, and at this stage, you begin to sink into political oblivion.”
Dalori underscored the necessity for politicians to build and sustain trust within their communities. According to him, having the backing of a significant portion of the electorate positions a politician as a valuable ally for those seeking electoral success.
“If you control a large population of the electorate as your shop, every politician seeking election will come to you because you have the capital, you have the wares he is searching for,” he remarked.
The APC stalwart’s comments come as the party strategizes to consolidate its political stronghold across the country, emphasizing the need for proactive governance and continuous engagement with the people. By delivering on campaign promises and fostering inclusivity, Dalori believes politicians can strengthen their positions ahead of the 2027 polls.
He concluded by reiterating the importance of leadership that listens and responds to the needs of the people, noting that this approach would secure trust and loyalty, both of which are essential for enduring political relevance.
