Defection to APC Won’t Guarantee Victory for Enugu, Bayelsa Governors in 2027 – Hon. M. Sani
The defection of governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East and South-South will not ensure electoral victory in the 2027 general elections.
Nigerian voters have become more politically aware and are no longer influenced by political realignments or elite manoeuvres.
Nigerians have woken up. The electorate is more informed and determined than ever to vote based on performance, not party affiliation,” he said.
Reflecting on the 2023 general elections marked a turning point in Nigeria’s democratic journey. Voters across the country defied intimidation and political manipulation to make their voices heard.
The 2023 elections showed that the people will no longer tolerate non-performance. They want leaders who deliver, not those who switch sides for personal gain. No amount of defection can save a politician who has lost the trust of the people.
The current administration’s economic policies, calling them harmful to ordinary Nigerians. I believe the government’s habit of imposing taxes on the poor without delivering real results or visible infrastructure has increased public frustration.
This is not governance. This is exploitation. The 2027 elections will be a referendum on failed policies, and the people will hold leaders accountable,” he added.
The South-East and South-South regions remain strongholds of the opposition, especially the PDP and Labour Party (LP). He stated that any assumptions of easy victories by the ruling party are misguided.
Power now rests firmly in the hands of the people. The days of political impunity are over. Come 2027, the voters—not political godfathers or defection dramas—will decide the outcome.
As political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections, Sani’s comments serve as a warning to those relying on party-switching as a path to success.
