Democracy Day: Bryhm Says Democracy Is Not a Gift, But a Responsibility
PDP Governorship Aspirant for Kogi State in 2027, Dr. Folabora Adekoya Bryhm, has described democracy as a responsibility rather than a gift, urging citizens and leaders to actively protect rights, promote inclusion, and deliver good governance.
In his Democracy Day message released Friday, Dr. Bryhm said the day should be used to reflect on freedom, voice, and the power of the people to shape the future of Kogi State and Nigeria.
“Democracy is not a gift; it is a responsibility. It means giving the people a voice, protecting their rights, and ensuring that government works for everyone,” he stated.
He said true democracy requires creating opportunities for youth, empowering women, supporting farmers, and improving quality of life for every citizen. “Today, I reaffirm my commitment to the ideals of good governance, transparency, and people-centered leadership,” the aspirant added.
Dr. Bryhm emphasized that the strength of democracy lies not only in leaders but in active citizen participation. He called for peace, unity, and civic engagement as the path to progress.
“I remain convinced that together, we can build a state where every child has hope, every youth has opportunity, and every family can aspire to a better future,” he said.
He concluded by celebrating the resilience of the people of Kogi State and Nigeria, praying that democracy continues to grow stronger and its dividends reach every community.
Dr. Folabora Adekoya Bryhm is a frontline PDP governorship aspirant for Kogi State’s 2027 election.
Democracy Day, observed annually on June 12, marks Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999 and honors the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
