The Management and Editorial Board of Democracy Newsline Newspaper extend their profound appreciation to all distinguished personalities who graced the 15th Annual Public Lecture and Awards Ceremony, held on Tuesday, August 26, 2024, at the Banquet Hall of the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja.
This year’s theme, “Promoting Participatory Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria,” provided a platform for scholars, policymakers, civil society actors, and the media to critically examine the state of governance in our nation. The event reemphasized the vital role of citizens in nurturing democracy.
The newspaper particularly commends all award recipients, including Hon. Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Regional Development; Chief Edward David Onoja, former Deputy Governor of Kogi State; Hon. Yetunde Adeniji, Senior Special Assistant on Home-Grown School Feeding Program; and others who received prestigious special recognition, Leadership, Lifetime Achievement, Community Development Service Awards, and other outstanding personalities recognized in music, governance, and community development.
Their contributions continue to serve as shining examples of dedication, excellence, and resilience in their respective fields.
The newspaper is equally grateful to the Chairman of the Occasion, Professor Emeritus Olu Obafemi; the Royal Guest Speaker, HRH Akogun Isaq Ajibola, the Akogun of Ife-Olukun and former Managing Director, Daily Trust Newspaper; the Chief Host and Patron, Hon. By honoring the invitation, the guests have not only supported Democracy Newsline Newspaper but have also reaffirmed the importance of independent media as a cornerstone of participatory democracy.
The newspaper remains committed to expanding its platforms, including the recently announced ₦100 million digital expansion fund, which will finance its online television and podcast studio.
These tools will enable the newspaper to reach wider audiences, deepen civic education, and amplify citizens’ voices in governance.
The newspaper urges all Nigerians to draw lessons from this year’s dialogue: democracy thrives when citizens participate actively, when leaders embrace accountability, and when the media upholds truth and fairness.
Together, Nigerians can sustain a culture of good governance that secures a better future for the nation.
