The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), CG Kemi Nanna Nadanap, has emphasized the importance of accurate reporting in journalism, particularly when covering sensitive topics such as immigration.
This was disclosed by the Principal Staff Officer (PSO) to the Comptroller General, CIS Dotun Aridegbe, while receiving a Public Service Leadership Award on behalf of his boss.
During the occasion, the PSO commended the management of Democracy Newsline Newspaper for their commitment to factual reporting.
He noted that the Immigration Boss highlighted the crucial role journalists play in shaping public perception and influencing policy decisions, and urged them to maintain high standards of professionalism and accuracy in their reporting, especially when dealing with complex issues like immigration.
He noted that due to the tight schedule of the CG, she could not attend the event on Tuesday, hence he was receiving the award of honor on her behalf.
Earlier, the Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of Democracy Newsline Newspaper, Chief Olugbemi Femi, stated that the CG was initially slated to be honored at the newspaper’s 15th Anniversary Public Lecture and Awards Ceremony held on August 26 at the Banquet Hall of the National Merit House, Abuja.
Chief Femi described CG Kemi Nanna Nadanap as a competent leader, citing the ongoing reforms in the service that have enhanced national security.
He further noted that despite the prevalence of misinformation and disinformation, Democracy Newsline Newspaper will continue to partner with reputable organizations like the Nigeria Immigration Service under the leadership of CG Kemi Nanna Nadanap to keep the public informed about the service’s activities.
The partnership between the Nigeria Immigration Service and Democracy Newsline Newspaper is a testament to the importance of collaboration between government agencies and the media in promoting transparency and accountability.
