The Chief Medical Director of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Dr. Pokop Bupwatda, has been honoured by the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Plateau State Council, with the prestigious position of Patron.

The event took place at the Government House Chapel, Rayfield, Jos.

The honour was conferred on Dr. Bupwatda in recognition of his inclusive and egalitarian leadership style, as well as his positive impact on society.

Dr. Bupwatda, who is serving his second term as Chief Medical Director of JUTH, has brought tremendous transformation to the hospital. At the ceremony, he was accompanied by his wife, relatives, in-laws, members of the hospital’s management and staff, as well as associates who turned out in solidarity and support.

The event attracted dignitaries from within and outside Plateau State, including former Governor Joshua Chibi Dariye, Hon. Dachung Bagos, Ambassador Bagudu Hirse, among others.

In his speech, the Plateau State Chairman of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria said the organisation was not conferring mere titles on the new patrons but assigning them responsibilities.

According to him, the new patrons are expected to provide guidance and support to the Boys’ Brigade and help nurture the boys into responsible citizens.

He informed the congregation that the Plateau State Council recorded significant successes during the National Council meeting held last August, winning four different trophies in Bible studies and emerging as the highest award recipient.

He also disclosed that Plateau State had been given the right to host next year’s National Council meeting.

The chairman further charged the newly inducted patrons to serve as role models to the boys and help raise young people with strong faith, dignity and integrity.

Also speaking, the National President of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Prof. Samson Buna, represented by the National Secretary, Dr. Adamu Sunday Malgwi, described the appointment of the patrons as a divine call to national responsibility.

He said Plateau State was an important part of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, adding that “without Plateau State, the National Council will not be complete,” because the state council had consistently made the organisation proud.

He further announced that the National Secretariat would establish a branch of its secretariat in Jos.

Other patrons inducted at the ceremony included the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, and Dr. Josiah Dangut.

Speaking to newsmen, the State Secretary of the Boys’ Brigade Nigeria, Mr. Yilkop Stephen Yohanna, described the event as significant and expressed optimism that the new patrons would strengthen the activities and development of the Boys’ Brigade in Plateau State and beyond.

Highlights of the Event

A major highlight of the ceremony was the designation of the newly inducted patrons by the National President for appointment as National Patrons.

The patrons were decorated with ceremonial caps by their spouses and presented with flags and certificates.

The event climaxed with a colourful march-past by Boys’ Brigade members and officers, bringing the ceremony to a memorable close.
