Dr. Damilola Bags SDGs Ambassadorial Award, Advocates Passage of Nigeria Peace Corps Bill

By Ahiaba Douglas

Renowned humanitarian and entrepreneur, Dr. Damilola Ade-Fetuga, has been honored with the prestigious Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Ambassadorial Award, in recognition of her exceptional humanitarian services to the less privileged—particularly women and children—and her unwavering contributions to Peace building and social cohesion in Nigeria.

The award was conferred on Dr. Ade-Fetuga alongside other distinguished Nigerians during the 27th Anniversary of the Nigeria Peace Corps and the 2025 Founder’s Day Celebration, held at the Exhibition Pavilion, Area 10, Garki, Abuja on Thursday, July 10th, 2025.

In her acceptance remarks, Dr. Ade-Fetuga expressed gratitude to the Nigeria Peace Corps for the recognition, describing the award as an encouragement to intensify her efforts in alleviating poverty and promoting sustainable development in the country.

“This award is not just an honour but a reminder that our little efforts matter. It strengthens my resolve to continue working for a better Nigeria, especially in addressing poverty and improving the lives of women and children,” she stated.

Dr. Ade-Fetuga also praised the Nigeria Peace Corps for its impactful role in youth engagement, value reorientation, and Peace building across communities.

“The Corps has positively engaged countless Nigerian youths in nation-building efforts. Passing the National Peace Corps Bill would further empower these young people to play active roles in securing our nation amid the growing insecurity,” she urged.

She appealed to the Federal Government to ensure the passage of the Nigeria Peace Corps Bill and called for adequate financial support to enable the organization to function effectively and fulfill its mandate.

In his address prior to the award presentation, the National Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dr. Dickson Akoh, commended Dr. Ade-Fetuga for her dedication to poverty alleviation, gender equality, and women’s empowerment. He emphasized that her passion and consistent efforts earned her the SDGs Ambassadorial Award.
