KOGI POLICE PRESS RELEASE

SECURITY PARTNERSHIP DEEPENS AS CP DANTAWAYE MEETS STAKEHOLDERS IN ISANLU AREA COMMAND

In a strategic move to fortify grassroots security collaboration and address growing insecurity in Yagba Federal Constituency, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, psc, embarked on a high-level stakeholders engagement tour to the Isanlu Area Command.

The visit began with a courtesy call to the palace of the paramount ruler of Isanlu Kingdom, where CP Dantawaye was warmly received by the Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Moses Babatunde, the Agbana of Isanlu who appreciated the CP’s humility and leadership, describing the visit as the first of its kind by a serving Commissioner of Police, and a strong statement of respect for traditional institutions. “This gesture is rare and commendable. You have shown that traditional rulers matter, and your leadership approach is sincerely appreciated,” said the monarch.

While addressing the royal council, CP Dantawaye emphasized the importance of starting such a mission with cultural and spiritual blessings, particularly in light of security challenges in Yagba axis. He further stated that It is important he begin with the royal father to receive blessings before meeting stakeholders. He further stated that the visit is aimed at engaging with the critical stakeholders in Yagba Federal Constituency to strengthen community policing approach for enhanced security in the axis.

Following the palace visit, the Commissioner proceeded to the Isanlu Area Command Headquarters where he held a robust interactive session with community stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community Leaders, PCRC members, Fulani Leaders, Hausa Leaders, Igbo Leaders, Youth Leaders, Traders, Artisans, Transport unions, Okada union, Vigilantes, Hunters, security agencies as well as personnel of Isanlu Area Command.

During the session, CP Dantawaye delivered a comprehensive lecture focused on discipline, professionalism, community trust, and proactive intelligence sharing. He urged the public to hold erring officers accountable and assured them of ongoing training initiatives to improve weapons handling and civil engagement.

He disclosed that discipline starts with how we talk, walk, dress, and behave. If an officer misbehaves, report his or her conduct to the authority. Our doors are open, community trust is vital to our work and that can build public confidence on the law enforcement agents.

He further stated that Criminals don’t vanish into thin air, they pass through our markets, farms, and roads. While calling on the public to sharpen their power of observation and reports on any suspicious activities within their neighborhood. Stressing that, “If you see something, say something’. One call can save lives. He emphasised further that security is a collective responsibility, the public has a role to play by volunteering timely and credible information about the activities of criminal elements in their respective areas. Noting that by giving information to the Police or any other security agencies, the public are contributing in policing in their own area.

The Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area Hon. Dare Joshua ably represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Olumide Balogun commended the CP for such an important visit and engagements which will enhanced the capacity of the Police officers in Yagba Area and deepening more collaboration for a safe and secure environment. He assured of the council’s committment in rendering support to the law enforcement in Yagba Federal Constituency.

As a highlight of the event, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Isanlu Area Command led by its Chairman, Pastor Joseph Bamidele presented an award of excellence to CP Dantawaye in recognition of his outstanding leadership and proactive grassroots engagement. The PCRC Chairman further stated that the award is a token of their appreciation for the exemplary leadership and community-focused policing by the CP. Assured of their unwavering commitment to a more robust collaboration with the Police for effective implementation of community policing in Yagba Federal Constituency.

The CP further encouraged the formation of Community Vigilante Groups, stressing that they must be profiled and work in synergy with security agencies. He also cautioned against jungle justice, reaffirming the Force’s respect for human rights and rule of law. He caution that, whenever citizens take laws into their hands, they undermine justice. He urged for a sustained efforts to build a system where crime is punished legally and swiftly.

In closing, CP Dantawaye called for regular joint meetings between community leaders and security agencies, stressing that Police is the community, and the community is the Police.

The event ended on a high note, with commitments from stakeholders to strengthen cooperation for enhance security in the axis and sustain communication with law enforcement. The CP thanked the Area Commander, DPOs of Isanlu, Egbe, Odo-Ere and Ife-olukotun Divisions, representatives of DSS, NSCDC , and community leaders for the synergy and unwavering support.
