Dr. Folabora Bryhm Congratulates Prof. Olu Obafemi on His Appointment as Professor Emeritus by the Senate of the University of Ilorin

It is with great joy and profound admiration that I, Dr. Folabora Bryhm, extend my heartfelt congratulations to Professor Olu Obafemi (FNAL, NNMA), the Asiwaju of Kiri Kingdom and the longest-serving grand Patron of Bunu Students’ Union, on his recent appointment as Professor Emeritus by the Senate of the University of Ilorin.

Professor Obafemi’s appointment as Professor Emeritus is a testament to his exceptional contributions to the fields of English and Dramatic Literature coupled with his profound influence in academia, and his significant impact on Nigeria’s literary and intellectual landscape.

This honor is a recognition of a lifetime of dedication, excellence, and intellectual rigor that has set an exemplary standard for future generations.

Having served as a Professor of English and Dramatic Literature at the University of Ilorin since October 1990, Professor Obafemi’s academic career is marked by remarkable achievements, both within the university and beyond. His expertise, academic insight, and passion for literature have undoubtedly shaped the minds of countless students, colleagues, and the broader academic community.

As a distinguished Fellow and former President of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (FNAL), Professor Obafemi has played a leading role in the promotion and development of Nigerian literature. His work as a poet, playwright, and author has earned him a well-deserved place among Nigeria’s foremost intellectuals. His scholarship continues to inspire, challenge, and deepen our understanding of the humanities and literary traditions in Africa.

Professor Obafemi’s leadership extends beyond the classroom as he served as the Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. (FUTMINNA), and is currently holding the same role at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara. (CUSTECH), in Kogi State. His stewardship in these esteemed institutions has been characterized by his vision for growth, excellence, and inclusivity.

A man of diverse talents and profound intellect, Professor Obafemi the 76th recipient of the Nigerian National Order of Merit (NMOM) award (2018)— the highest professional honor for Nigerians. An honor that further underscores his tremendous contributions to the advancement of knowledge in Nigeria. He is a man of great repute. He has truly exemplified what it means to be a leader in both the academic and cultural spheres of our society.

Once again, I congratulate Professor Olu Obafemi, on this remarkable achievement.

This appointment by the Senate of the University of Ilorin is well-deserved and a fitting recognition of his dedication, scholarly excellence, and profound impact on Nigerian education and culture. May his continued legacy inspire future generations to strive for excellence in all endeavors.
